Day 1 At The Geneva Motor Show for Signature

Friday, March 16th, 2012

It was a mad first day for the Signature team at the 2012 Geneva Motors Show. A 5 am flight to catch, followed by a day of supercar spotting and an evening of socialising was the day’s agenda, and the guys certainly made the most of it!

Eager to spot the latest must have prestige car for the fleet, the guys had their work cut out with such a wide selection to choose from. Show stoppers included the Aston Martin Zagato and the Ferrari F12 Berlingetta, not to mention the Lamborghini LP700 concept car. The jury is still out on the new Bentley SUV, but the Range Rover Evoque Cabriolet and the Range Rover Evoque by Hammon got thumbs up all round.

The guys also stopped to look at the mini cooper john works, and the mini clubvan, in addition to Mercedes S63 AMG and the new BMW i3 concept car.

There was so much to see, and another supercar day planned today, but perhaps we should let the pictures do the talking!

Geneva Motor Show Delivers on its Promise

Wednesday, March 14th, 2012

The much-awaited Geneva Motor Show is only half-way through its two week showcase of motoring excellence and yet it has already brought us some fabulous new models.

Whilst over 260 exhibitors put their new cars on display, there were a few that stole the show.

The Rolls Royce Phantom II certainly falls into this category.  In the spirit of Sir Henry Royce, the Phantom II certainly does ‘take the best that exists and make it better’.  Whilst ensuring what makes the Phantom Saloon, Phantom Drophead Coupé and Phantom Coupé so quintessentially Rolls Royce is not compromised, but is enhanced, the Series II incredibly moves the marque forwards.

New LED headlights emphasise the restyled new front-end, with refined bumpers and rectangular light apertures.  They are not only cosmetic however, being the first to be standard on a production car.  Enhanced safety is the result since LED lights are electronically-controlled and reflected to focus headlamp beams in the direction of travel, including curved light functionality.

Such driver comforts seem to flow throughout this superb car.  Not only is safety enhanced, with other features such as the rear path prediction for easier reversing, but so is route enjoyment, with the larger control centre display.  Satellite navigation just became easier.

No aspect is left untouched.  The drivability is enhanced as well with the introduction of a new eight-speed automatic gearbox and rear differential.  The V12 direct injection engine has been made more efficient with improvements to both fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

A marque of equal prestige to Rolls Royce is Aston Martin. They brought eight models to the show but the new V8 Vantage certainly took pride of place in their line-up.  The 2012 release sees the most advanced package of improvements since the launch of the Vantage S in 2008.  The optional gearbox that is available received an upgrade, so that new owners now have the choice of a seven-speed Sportshift II automated manual gearbox, instead of the standard six-speed gearbox.  A sportier experience awaits with this seventh gear, closer ratios, lower final drive revs and more responsive gear changes.

Voicing this more sportsmanlike attitude, the exterior proclaims its performance credentials.  A larger air intake is ensconced in an aerodynamic splitter on the lowered front bumper. Along the side race-day sills emphasise its pedigree.  To the rear, a dramatic diffuser signs off on the package.

Another marque which had fans holding their breath is Bentley.  Delivering on so much speculation, they released their concept SUV, the EXP 9 F.  For a concept car, this design presents the possibility of driving everything that represents Bentley style, grace and power, in the 4×4 format.  Amazingly, the sportiness of Bentley’s racing heritage, luxury architecture, and exemplary comfort are all captured in the EXP 9 F.  They describe the result as the ‘absolute pinnacle of the sport utility vehicle sector’. Recognisable aspects such as the Bentley matrix grill, circular head lights, and rear haunches of the vehicle are retained, and yet effortless fit into the off-road mould.  Many more styling cues, including those in the lights and wheels, reflect the ‘Bentley Set’ days with references to the Bentley Blower and others from the 1920’s and 1930’s.

Inside, luxury and utility are fused in harmony. From the advanced entertainment technology featuring easy to use touch-screen control, right down to the reversible silk and wool floormats, and everything in between, a practical aspect has been designed into the plush interior.  Traditional hand-finished materials incorporate more durable veneers, and even the tailgate allows itself to function as a viewing bench or picnic table.

The concept has been developed using a W12 6.0 litre engine, capable of 600 bhp and 800 Nm of torque.  Whilst this may only be a placeholder, it nonetheless sets new benchmarks for 4×4 vehicles.

The Italians are always going to bring some excitement and flair to the Swiss Show.  This year the neighbours certainly caused a stir.  The Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is punted as the most exciting new Ferrari in an eon, and the Ferrari California presents a fresh look at this iconic supercar.

Debuted in the brand new hues of Rosso Berlinetta and Aluminium, the F12 is the most powerful and capable road car ever produced by Ferrari.  Transaxle architecture, revolutionary alloys construction and a 200-bar direct-injection 6262cc 65° V12 engine are all crafted to make the most progressive Ferrari yet.

Bugatti were not to be outdone and chose to unveil the Veyron 16.4 Sport Vitesse.  The fastest roadster ever met its public this week, and instantly took their breath away.  True recipient of the title of supercar, the Veyron Sport Vitesse, with its 7.9 litre W16 engine reaches a top speed of 255 mph, and sprints to 62 mph in just 2.6 seconds.  The drive system, chassis and body all complement this electrifying performance.  The body though has, understandably undergone radical treatment to arrive at the Sport Vitesse. Larger than life air intakes and front and roof spoilers, together with a carbon fibre and leather interior make this open-top car a comfortable yet powerful sportster.

It is quite possible that Lamborghini stole the show however.  So much anticipation had been focused on a new edge to the already-amazing Lamborghini Aventador.  Fans will not be disappointed with the resulting Aventador J that was presented.  The 515 kW, 700 bhp roadster is quite possibly what everyone came to Geneva to see.   More than just an open-top version of the already amazing Aventador, the J looks to motorsport specifications for its ultimate motivation. A ‘Carbonskin’ body, new twelve-cylinder engine, and even a new paint hue for the monocoque all highlight how impressive a step forward is the Aventador J.

The heartbreaking silhouette ensures that in true Lamborghini style ‘form follows function’. A narrower front aspect and wider rear profile, combined with everything that flows immaculately in between, contribute to uncompromising dynamics.

We expect to see and hear a lot more about these cars that are redefining what performance and good looks are all about.

Get Closer to the Aston Martin V12 Zagato

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

An exciting second installment to the news we brought you last week is now available. Following on from our headline that Aston Martin would be previewing the V12 Zagato at this year’s Concours d’Elegance in Kuwait, we can now share with you that the official PR photographs of this Limited Edition supercar have just been published.

The first photographs are now available ahead of the show, for you to have a peek at what the interior and exterior of this Italian-styled British-built coupe will look like in production. Whilst a single shot of the car’s unique double-bubble exterior was confirmed last week, in accompaniment of the news that we would get to see the car itself this month, Aston Martin have now released the publicity brochure of the car. You not only get to glimpse inside this remarkably special edition and swoon over its bodywork outside, but you can also learn a little more about its development and production, how it is hand-crafted at the Aston Martin facility at Gaydon.

The album now shows officially the offspring of the union between Aston Martin and Zagato. It profiles the rear end of the car which takes its looks from the Zagato style-emphasised side of the family, with just a hint of the Aston Martin racing heritage in its exhaust tips, rear diffuser and rear wing. The curves to the roof and indicator lights are pure-blood Italian.

Sharing some similarities with the interior of the V12 Vantage, as well as its 6.0 litre engine, the monocoque is however identified with a unique hand-stitched leather design, Zagato-badged carbon-fibre racing seats, and central console finished with carbon-fibre panels to ensure true Aston Martin race-bred inheritance. For those of you who can’t wait for footage from the show to be released, this is a must-see. Watch this space however for feedback from Kuwait.

New Aston Martin Virage Coupe

Tuesday, November 29th, 2011

Coming soon to Signature Car Hire from the stable of Aston Martin is the superb new Virage Coupe.  Timing, precision and sheer performance characterise this new car, as one would undoubtedly expect from the masterful marque. Whilst wrapped in a sublime body which draws one’s eyes along its sleek lines, this supercar delivers its race-bred performance in a perfectly-tuned and almost understated manner.

This latest car is the pinnacle of the development of the VH range.  A perfect element in the palette of sports cars offered by Aston Martin, the Virage Coupe offers drivers an experience unique amongst the marque’s blueprint.

The personality of the Virage Coupe is intrinsically introverted to the beholder, yet alludes to superb sports car performance to the driver.

There is nothing to mistake though in the engineering of this refined car.  The legendary hand-built 6.0 litre V12 engine produces an awesome 490 bhp rating the Virage Coupe high up in the league distinguished supercars. 570 Nm of torque mean that this is a car which causes more than a murmur in polite conversation. The ideal complement for such an engine is the six-speed Touchtronic II automatic transmission.  This partnership is founded on the fact that the front mid-mounted power unit contributes to the perfectly-balanced weight distribution.

This poise leads to a determined sense of agility, allowing the driver to experience race-bred performance whilst seated in a seamlessly-luxurious sports car.  An ADS, or Adaptive Damping System, allows the driver to be the master of the road conditions, with up to ten different settings revealing what true performance feels like.

The integrity of the Virage Coupe is further enhanced by the ‘Sport’ feature.  Engaging a sharper throttle response, the driver is able to change gear faster whilst preventing the gears from shifting up as the rev limiter takes up.

One of the most important features however of the Virage Coupe is not how fast it can go, but how fast it can stop.  An identifying characteristic of the car will be that it will arrive with Carbon Ceramic Matrix brakes as standard, a step change in the standard of cars even at this level.   Paired with the excellent weight distribution, this means that the handling of the Virage Coupe is beyond expectation.

Levels of comfort indeed exceed the imagination for such a performance-driven sports car. Inside the hallmark swan-wing doors, blended Bridge of Weir leather flows over the interior giving a unique journey for the optical senses as well.  Upholstery becomes more than just somewhere to sit.

The quiet way in which the Virage Coupe delivers its renowned Aston Martin performance will underscore nothing but your pleasure. Don’t want to wait for the coupe, they try the Aston Martin Virage Volante and see for yourself why our clients are raving about this car.
