The new C-Class is the first car to be built using Mercedes' new rear-wheel drive architecture (MRA). This uses around 50 per cent aluminium in its construction - up from 10 per cent before - and cuts 70kg from the body. Other weight savings mean the new C-Class weighs around 100kg less than previously, which all helps improve the driving experience.
Dwelling within this lightweight C Class is a 2-litre four cylinder engine producing 181BHP, linked to a seven-speed G-Tronic Plus automatic transmission. Mercedes have also upgraded the suspension, a four-link front suspension set up which is linked to the Agility Select function that allows you to choose from Eco, Comfort, Sport and Sport+ driving modes. The car offers a smooth, comfortable ride that can nevertheless get racy if you desire a sportier driving experience.

The driving position in particular has been much improved, with a more ergonomic position and better vision. Storage space also abounds, particularly the large storage bin between the front seats.
Predictably, the Mercedes C Class is stuffed full of useful technology. As well as keyless go, which allows you to lock, unlock and start the car without removing the key from your pocket, the car also has a large infotainment screen, reverse camera, DVD player, and media interface for connecting your devices to the impressive Burmester stereo system. There's more than a touch of the S Class about this new C Class model. Longer, wider and more imposing, the car is elegantly styled, with sculpted sides and swept-back LED performance headlamps for a powerful feel. According to Mercedes-Benz, "The all new bodystyling is as dynamic as it is distinctive, from the aggressive front section with two-louvre radiator grille and large air intakes, to the muscular creases along the flanks". Clad in cool Polar White paint, the car has a deep front bumper, quad exhaust layout and enlarged flared wheel arches to accommodate the larger 18" AMG 5 spoke alloy wheels.
