The Viano has all the hallmarks of a Mercedes-Benz. Striking headlamps, unmistakable grille, and dynamic smooth rounded forms. The Viano’s floor rail system lets you shift the single or bench seats forward in 1 inch (25 mm) stages to position them anywhere on the rail, facing forward or back ideal for sitting at the fold-away table. You can fold the single passenger seat backs flat, to make a table, or flip the folded seats
The Viano’s seats have been designed to offer maximum comfort even on the longest journeys. All seats in the Viano are ergonomically designed and have three-point seatbelts. Single passenger seats have armrests and adjustable backrests. They move forward or back in 1 inch (25 mm) stages, to give you a more flexible space and passengers plenty of legroom where they need it.

Powerful and efficient
Quiet, clean and smooth running, the Viano’s range of three common-rail, direct-injection diesel engines are remarkably efficient and supremely powerful. The Viano 2.0 CDI delivering an impressive 116 hp (85 kW).
Smooth and responsive transmission
A 5-speed automatic transmission, with Tipfunction for increased responsiveness and fuel economy is standard on the Ambiente models.
The optimised Tipfunction reacts to suit your driving style and appropriately changes the gear for you. To regain manual control of the gears, you only need to tap the gearshift.
Optimum control
The Viano really comes into its own when overtaking on hills, when pulling a trailer or caravan, or carrying heavy goods. This is because, in addition to the independent suspension all round, the air suspension for the rear axles (standard for the Ambiente) uses automatic level control to maintain optimum weight distribution for the best possible traction and steering in all situations. Air suspension also makes loading and unloading that much easier, as it lets you raise or lower the Viano’s rear floor by up to 2 inches (50 mm) at the touch of a button.
Exceptional handling
On wet, winter roads the Viano’s rear-wheel drive and all-round independent suspension provide better steering and exceptional handling. In conjunction with air suspension for the rear axle (standard for the Ambiente), rear-wheel drive also gives you better traction when you're on mountain roads or when the rear seats are occupied. It also provides excellent handling and driving characteristics along with great ride comfort. What’s more, if you’ve forgotten something, the Viano’s small turning circle (11.8 metres for the compact and long versions) lets you turn around fast.
High performance technology
In adverse road conditions, sharp cornering or abrupt braking, a vehicle can quickly begin to skid. The Viano’s latest-generation ESP® (Electronic Stability Programme) works together with Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBV) to restore stability in these situations.
Sensors monitor individual wheel speeds, yaw rate (body lean) and sideways movement. When they detect vehicle instability, brake and active engine control units apply precise pressure to individual wheels and electronically reduce or increase engine torque, as required.
Faster stop
Research shows that most drivers press the brake pedal too slowly or too briefly in emergency situations. To compensate for this, the Brake Assist (BAS) technology provides maximum-power braking within a fraction of a second. This significantly reduces the stopping distance.
Keeping you in control
If the driver accelerates too abruptly and one of the driven wheels starts to spin, the Acceleration Skid Control (ASR) helps the wheel to regain sufficient traction.
It does this using the same sensor signals as ABS, but to detect wheel spin rather than wheel lock. It then brakes the spinning wheel and reduces engine torque to stabilize the vehicle.
Stop faster, maintain steering...
Steering is important even while braking. The Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) uses sensors to monitor the speed of each wheel.
If the system detects that the wheels are about to lock during emergency braking, ABS repeatedly releases and applies the brakes for fractions of seconds, so that the wheels continue to turn. This allows the vehicle to stop faster and remain steerable.
Intelligent restraint
All seats are fitted with three-point seatbelts with high performance belt tensioners and force limiters that automatically take up slack on detection of a collision, then yield to prevent the pressure becoming excessive.
Hard cell
Part of feeling at home is feeling safe. And you’ll do both in the Viano. The structure of the Viano is carefully designed to channel the energy of an impact along predefined paths in front, side, rear or head-on collisions.
Energy-absorbing deformable elements and crumple zones increase the protection provided by the high-strength passenger cell.
More is better
If an accident does happen, the intelligent restraint systems minimise the effects of impact. Driver and passenger airbags are standard on all Viano models.
Sensors in the passenger seat determine the extent of the airbag’s deployment. Thorax sidebags (standard in the Ambiente) are optionally available for driver and front passenger, as are window sidebags. Thorax sidebags are not available for swivel seats.
At the touch of a button
The multi-function steering wheel (standard on the Ambiente) allows you to control a range of functions on the car without taking your hands off the wheel.
Change radio station, adjust the volume, review your journey data, switch tracks on a CD, take a telephone call, check on the engine… This diverse range of features coupled with simplicity of use is entirely unrivalled, leaving you free to give the road your full attention.
A breath of fresh air
The Viano’s semi-automatic climate control system keeps everyone in optimum comfort. It has temperature and air-flow control, pollen filter, and ‘residual heat utilisation’ for heating and ventilation when the engine is switched off. Electrically operated, side-opening rear air vents and roof ducting, in conjunction with optional rear air conditioning, keeps the air inside the Viano fresh and at just the right temperature.
Further options for greater comfort include the electric panorama glass sunroof for the rear. There’s also fully automatic climate control, with solar sensor, tunnel switch (to detect and exclude polluted air), and separate zone heating for the passenger compartment.
Perfect parking
The intelligent optional parking assistant, Parktronic, helps you to manoeuvre and park in tight spots. The system uses ultrasound signals from the front and rear bumpers which are reflected by obstacles. A combination of a coloured display and acoustic warnings indicate how much space you have available. If you get too close to a potential obstacle, you receive a continuous audible warning.
