Bentley Mulsanne Multiplies by Four Ahead of Geneva Motor Show

Bentley – the personification of luxury and class. Who could ever object to an extension of its elegant range?

Ahead of the ever-approaching Geneva Motor Show 2016, Bentley have extended the Bentley Mulsanne lineup to four models; never a brand to move slowly, deliveries are scheduled for this very summer.

The new range consists of updated versions of the Mulsanne and the Mulsanne Speed, and welcomes additions in the form of two new Mulsanne Extended Wheelbase models. The first new model increases rear legroom, whereby leg rests can be extended for bed-like positioning and comfort. The rear compartment of the extended wheelbase model also has its own sunroof, to add natural light to the rear of the cabin as well as the front. The other additional Bentley Mulsanne marque  offers six seats, in a four up, face-to-face rear seat configuration, though fewer specific details have been provided other than all cars will be built to order.

Facelift Brings Noise Cancelling Bonuses

Moreover, the entire Bentley Mulsanne range has received a refreshing facelift, now boasting a “fresh and modern” look, according to its makers. According to the team at Bentley, new chassis technology will deliver “the world’s most refined ride” – well, we cannot wait to experience a drive with so much promise.

The standard Bentley Mulsanne has kept the same powerful 6.75-litre V8 engine, linked to an eight-speed automatic ZF transmission and pelting out a meaty 505 BHP. The 0-62 MPH time clocks in at just 5.1 seconds, with a top speed of 184 MPH. The facelifted models will deliver a more controlled ride that drivers can adapt into varied custom modes of driving, while new tyre construction has cleverly resulted in a reduced cabin noise by up to 4dBA – more than half the noise generated in the current marque. What a perfect outcome for such a flagship model – and what a welcome addition this could be to our Executive Car Hire fleet!

It’s All in the Details

The redesign of the Bentley Mulsanne has seen rather a few changes. In fact, the entire front end forward of the A-pillar is completely new, including the bumper, bonnet, radiator, shell, grilles and lights. The new stainless steel grille stands out as a major change and statement, with Sang Yup Lee, Bentley’s Head of Exterior Design, commenting: “The vertical slats give the car a strong presence and imply luxury, while the matrix mesh implies a sportiness.”

Two floating LED lights, which intelligently offer adaptive technology to aid driving and safety on the roads, frame the grille. The rear bumper is now 26mm wider, and includes a feature line of which has the purpose of catching the light and adding a more purposeful look to the car.

Flit to the driver’s seat, and the most noticeable difference is the Bentley Mulsanne’s new 8.0inch touchscreen infotainment system. The screen undoubtedly modernises the cabin instantly, both in look and play, with the satellite navigation up to date and compatibility including Apple Carplay, Android Auto and MirrorLink. A new style seat, new door trims, new armrests, glass switchgear and a choice of 24 different colours of leather interior options, also add to the ambience of the Bentley Mulsanne like never before.

In terms of drive and safety features, the Bentley Mulsanne now offers headlights that automatically adjust performance according to the road and its conditions, while a new blind-spot system and stability control system can intervene if detection of a potential accident occurs.

All of these new design features work together to add width and presence to the masterpiece that is the Bentley Mulsanne. The Bentley Mulsanne is truly considered one of Bentley’s flagship models, with Wolfgang Durheimer – Chief Executive – naming it “the epitome of Bentley’s DNA – exquisite, individual and powerful. It defines luxury in the automotive world.”
