Bentley Push Back the Hybrid Bentayga

Bentley-Bentayga

Following the release of Bentley’s first SUV last year – the Bentley Bentayga – rumours spread like wildfire that the brand would bring a plug-in version to the market this year. However, while maintaining that hybrid engines are the fuel of the future, Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer has confirmed this week that the first electrified Bentley is, at least, two years away and scheduled in the Bentayga in 2018.

The plug-in hybrid technology is not limited to this model, though; all Bentley models bar the current Mulsanne are mechanically competent of pioneering such a drivetrain, with Bentley boss Durheimer confirming that we will be witnesses of a roll-out across the range in nearby years to come.

Labelling it “a solution for the future”, Durheimer has revealed that we will soon see plug-ins across “all model lines”, providing a foundation to the first electrified Bentley of the future, which he mentioned, “will come in time”.

The plug-in hybrid technology provides luxury and performance hand in hand with economic efficiency, and as a result, we are seeing more brands embracing the concept and diverting their energy towards incorporating such advancements within their own developments.

So what does the Bentayga of today have to offer?
The Bentley Bentayga is the Bentley SUV and oozes all the class, elegance and chauffeur-esque features we have come to take for granted from the luxury car manufacturer. Bentley themselves have described it as ‘the fastest, most powerful, most luxurious SUV in the world’.

BENTLEY-SIGNATURE-CAR-HIRE-8The Bentley Bentayga houses a new version of Bentley’s 6.0-litre W12, which delivers an amazing 0-60 MPH time of 4 seconds exactly, despite the 2.2-tonne weight of the SUV. Not only that, but the Bentayga boasts a top speed of 187 MPH, far outrunning any other SUV currently on the market. Even more astonishingly, the Bentayga delivers a 600 BHP; there will be no messing with this one, we can tell…

Bentley was not lying when claiming the Bentayga is the most luxurious, either. Inside the cabin, wood and leather work together to create an extraordinary setting, one we can envisage as the perfect chauffeur-driven environment. Yes, it will most certainly fit parked among our Bentley hire fleet, pictured here.

All we can say is, if this is what is packaged within the artwork that is the current Bentley Bentayga, we are on the edge of our seats until 2018 when we can meet the electrically powered model. There will be no hesitation to fasten our seatbelts then.
