BMW Performance and Athleticism Matched by Car and Olympic Team

The BMW sponsorship is extensive.  Not only are they the Official Automotive Partner to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, they are also the Sustainability Partner and Supporting Partner to the Olympic Torch Relay.  As a proud domestic sponsor, they provide the low-emission vehicles which will fire up the Games when they come to town.  Now it seems they are providing the fuel to a superb team of athletes in the form of the swimmers in the BMW London 2012 Performance Team, as they have just been selected as members of Team GB for July.

These proud sponsors recently announced their congratulations to Rebecca Adlington, Fran Halsall, James Goddard, Michael Jamieson, Robbie Renwick, Michael Rock, Elizabeth Simmonds, and Daniel Sliwinski after their selection to the British Olympic Team.

The BMW London 2012 Performance Team enjoyed the patronage of the motor marque in their preparations for the tournament, having displayed the same dynamic levels of athleticism, sportsmanship, and performance in previous competitions, as the BMW cars themselves.

‘Delivering maximum performance with minimum effort’ is not only the ethos of every elite athlete, but as BMW describes it is also at the heart of their EfficientDynamics strategy. This need to succeed has driven their sponsorship of the Performance Team as well as the development of cars like the Concept M135i.  Recently unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show, this concept car is described as a top athlete in the race for top honour in the premium compact segment.

The three-door, six-cylinder is the hot model in the BMW M Performance car suite.  Sporty, toned, and especially lean, this concept car does it all without any artificial performance enhancers.  Agility, precision, and power all harmonise meticulously. This is epitomised in its suspension and handling, where over 300 bhp is comfortably accommodated in typical rear-wheel drive sheer driving pleasure.  Not only does the M Sports braking system perfectly match the car’s performance to the road conditions, but aspects such as the eighteen-inch M light alloy double-spoke design wheels let the car do so in energetic yet sublime style.

The athletic style flows effortlessly throughout the car.  Typical M design cues originate at the front with large air intakes to demonstrate the car’s need for respiration.  At the rear, the ample profile reflects the command that this car takes on the road and on the track.  Three-dimensional surfaces partner with the Dark Shadow metallic tone of the lower section of the rear apron to emphasise the work/life balance that this car enables.  The multi-faceted nature of the car is also expressed through the twin exhaust pipes, captured with dark chrome trim.

Whether the car’s reason for being is to empower the driver on or off the race track, the enigmatic appearance continues along the side profile as well.  Horizontal contours and exterior mirror caps in Ferric Grey add elegance, whilst its frameless windows shout out its aerodynamic ability and proximity to the road surface emphasise its performance credentials.

This is a fitting tribute to the development of performance and competition.  Should the car reach production, any Olympian or mere mortal would be thrilled to drive one.
