Could Bentley be Entering the 4-door Coupe Market?

Crewe-based Bentley is known for its grand tourers like the Mulsanne which are popular in Europe and in emerging markets. However, the company is said to want to try and conquer the 4-door coupe market. The CEO of Bentley, Wolfgang Schreiber told Auto Express that the company is planning a 4-door coupe at some point in the future. Schreiber said: “I definitely wouldn’t say no to the idea. With the new Flying Spur, we have a model that supports the Mulsanne, and a coupe with four-doors could sit below that.” However, the CEO was quick to highlight that the SUV market is the company’s top priority now because they know that the market is there for a Bentley SUV. If a 4-door coupe were to be produced by Bentley, it wouldn’t be until around 2016.

The market for the SUV is clearly hot already – Bentley has already taken 2,000 pre-orders for the SUV which is staggering considering that the marque sold around 8,510 cars last year alone. If the 4-door coupe does happen, it will be pitted against marques like BMW by competing with the BMW 6 Series and the Mercedes CLS. The price point for the 4-door model could start at around £130,000.
