It’s Diesel Hybrid Time for Range Rover

The 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show is going to show off the Range Rover brand with a completely new performance spec included. There will be a diesel hybrid powertrain in the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport. Automotive fans have to wait until September to see the unveiling of both of these Ranges at the Frankfurt Motor Show but it will definitely be worth the wait.

Land Rover has decided to extend the powertrain to include a diesel-electric version and also to bring back a diesel V8. It seems like Range Rover’s reasoning lies with giving their customers more torque and strength especially to carry the imposing body of both Range Rovers.  The details of the engines are eye-watering: the electric motor of the engine will be between the engine and the ZF 8-speed transmission for efficiency. UK and European customers will be first to sample the delights of these diesel hybrid engines but US drivers won’t have the chance as the diesel engine will not be available in the US as it fails US emission tests. That doesn’t affect the allure that these diesel-hybrid engines will have for their customers especially considering the automotive trend of hybrid cars becoming more mainstream.
