Land Rover release limited edition Discovery Sport

Land-Rover-Discovery-Sport-2Land Rover have marked the launch of the new Discovery Sport by creating an exclusive run of just 250 special edition models, made specifically for the US market. They haven’t lost any of their iconic British style in the process however – just check out the brilliant Union Jack valve caps if you don’t believe us!

Alongside this display of patriotism, the launch edition benefits from the exclusive Yulong White Metallic paint, which won’t be available to other customers until at least 2016. The model will also be adorned with custom tread plates, aluminium flappy paddle gears and brushed stainless steel pedals.

The car is based on a steel monocoque accompanied by a body that’s largely made of aluminium. As you can probably discern from the Sport’s sleeker, smaller, Evoque-like exterior design, it’s almost a tonne lighter than the standard Land Rover Discovery model. Power comes from a 2 litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine that churns out 240BHP, and is spun through a nine-speed automatic transmission to all four wheels of the car.

land-rover-discovery-sport-10Thanks to the car’s dramatic weight loss, you’ll be able to go from 0-60MPH in just 7.8 seconds – a pretty remarkable figure given what else the Land Rover Discovery Sport can do. Drive up the side of mountains, for example.

Inside, the car is predictably luxurious, with an ebony grained leather interior and all the perks that come with the Black Design package – including executive seats, immaculate cabin design and premium technological features.

If you’re not based in the US, or quick enough to get one of the first 250 cars panic not – the regular production model will be hitting shelves next year.
