Under the bonnet of the Porsche Macan S is a 3 litre twin turbo 90 degree V6 engine that produces a maximum of 340hp at 5,500-6,500rpm. The drivetrain is all-wheel-drive, with an electronically controlled, map-controlled multi-plate clutch located in the end of the transmission – this is the same seven-speed twin-clutch PKD automatic you’ll find on the Porsche Panamera.
The car also comes with Porsche’s Traction Management System – which controls traction, off-road climbing and stablility to guarantee best performance on the terrain you’re facing. A Sport Chrono package can also be added, which includes dashboard timers as well as feistier chassis and powertrain algorithms.
The chassis of the Macan is made from a mix of steel and aluminium, with a wheelbase of 2.807m long. Links to Audi’s Q5 are evident in the car’s suspension, as the Macan uses the Q5s aluminium five-link wishbone axle at the front and self-tracking trapezoidal suspension at the back. If air suspension – which comes as standard in the Turbo version – is added, the driver is afforded much more comfort over the car’s level and performance.
