Celebrating the greatest sporting occasion in recent British history, a special threesome of Rolls-Royce cars was recently bespoke manufactured for the Closing Ceremony.
The majesty, achievement and spirit that were commemorated with the Closing Ceremony of the Thirtieth Olympiad were highlighted by the classic British brand, Rolls Royce. They chose to add their matchless essence to the conclusion of the Games by participating in style.
Not only were three of their cars chosen to grace the musical splendour but the chosen siblings were specially prepared for their big day. The Bespoke Department of Rolls Royce, which we blogged to you about recently, had their own moment for glory when the cars went on parade with the best of British contemporary musicians, and of course the elite of the World’s sportspeople.
The three special edition Rolls Royce Phantom Series II Drophead Coupés arrived in the stadium in London along with all the medal winners, participants, and of course, singing sensations. Their preparation for these fifteen minutes of fame began when the athletes themselves were still in training however.
The unique triplets carried peerless bodywork in a custom white on the outside, complete with an historic badge. For the first time in the history of the marque, or a hundred and eight years to be exact, the R R badge on the front of the car was replaced. Instead, these three sport a badge featuring the Spirit of Ecstasy carrying a Union Jack, instead of her usual dress. The wheels are also engraved with the Olympic logo Citius, Altius, Fortius. Inside the car, the steering wheel has a revised central hub with laurel wreath and torch.
The Rolls Royce Chief Executive Officer said, “I am delighted that Rolls-Royce Motor Cars was invited to take part in celebrating the success of the Games and it is appropriate that they should recognise this occasion with a fitting tribute. These unique cars were hand built at the Home of Rolls-Royce at Goodwood by our dedicated and passionate workforce and the whole team can take great pride in their part in making history for our company. Designed to be one of the most collectable and possibly unobtainable of all Rolls-Royces to date, the special Olympic edition Phantom Series II Drophead Coupe has been finished in English White and features limited edition one-of-three plaques.”
Easily upstaging the reformation of the Spice Girls, or the appearance of Jesse J in skin-tight leotard on its back seat, any one of these cars looked splendid including the Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead which was one of the Star Cars of the Olympics. Combined together they were spectacular.
