The Aston Martin & AMG Connection

When car marques work together, magic happens. This is definitely the case with Aston Martin and Mercedes-Benz. The British car maker and the German marque have agreed on a technical agreement.

How this agreement is structured

Through the agreement, Aston Martin will have access to all of AMG’s resources. In return for this, AMG will get a 3 percent stake in Aston Martin. This is a big deal considering the recent private equity investment stake that Aston Martin actually agreed to. This sounds like it is something management have thought about for a long time. The launch of the Vanquish proved that Aston Martin has plenty of bark and bite that it wants to channel in order to grow the business with new models. AMG is a studio that is known for its absolute attention to detail at all levels. The SLS AMG from Mercedes-Benz is the best example of the studio’s focus on performance and style. Now that Aston Martin has agreed to work with AMG, we can only imagine the goodies that both houses will cook up for car enthusiasts.

What Aston Martin will get from AMG?

Aston Martin could get engines from AMG and experts think that a turbocharged V8 engine is one of the options that Aston Martin could choose for. AMG also has access to gearboxes and important electrical equipment that Aston Martin would benefit from. New equipment that Aston Martin would want to take advantage of would probably be used for the models that will replace the V8 Vantage and the DB9.

By working with AMG, Aston Martin will have to end its relationship with Ford that provided its engines in the past. Mercedes-Benz spokesman Ola Kallenius said of the agreement: “We are proud to work with Aston Martin and provide them with powertrain and components for their forthcoming sports cars”. Choosing AMG as its new supplier is the best way forward for Aston Martin considering the rich and textured supercar pedigree that AMG has.
