Mercedes-Benz has had a whirlwind start to 2016, making the most of the first quarter and announcing an entourage of new models to their new range before spring had sprung. The latest in these announcements is an extension to the Mercedes-Benz AMG lineup in the form of a further 43 model – this time an SUV as opposed to a coupé – and the Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 AMG 4MATIC has been announced as on its way ahead of the New York Motor Show. Mercedes-Benz have will also reveal the new GLC Coupé, which will be available as both a standard range model and an AMG model.

Hitting showrooms in June, the latest take on the mid-size SUV of the range will become AMG-tuned and thus put out 362 BHP, as a result of a 3.0-litre V6 engine. A fiery new variant to the Mercedes-Benz GLC that arrived just last year, the GLC 43 AMG will accelerate from 0-62 MPH in only 4.9 seconds, and reach a top speed of 155 MPH; these figures top the stats of the Porsche Macan GTS, as well as beating it at 34 miles per gallon.

The Mercedes-Benz GLC 43 AMG will be built with the Mercedes-Benz nine-speed automatic gearbox, but will feature double-declutching, which demonstrates downshifts and shorter response times when shifted into Sports Plus – sounds like a contender for a consistent setting in our hands…

The GLC 43 AMG will also run from a four-wheel drive system, and be manufactured with AMG ride control and Dynamic Select features, which contain three-mode adaptive sports suspension and five driving modes with AMG-specific tuning. The brakes have been upgraded on the AMG version and the suspension cleverly worked to ensure a sportier ride and performance – both sure musts on a Mercedes-Benz AMG model, right?

As expected, the impressive GLC 43 AMG will adopt various AMG-specific styling features to park well within the AMG range, including 19-inch five-spoke gloss black alloys, a black radiator grille and mirrors, tweaked bumpers front and rear and unique exhaust tailpipes.

The GLC 43 will debut at the New York Motor Show this week, though we will have to wait a little longer to see it debut in our showrooms in the UK, with the planned launch due to take place in the summer of this year.

The GLC Gets the Roof Chopped
The GLC Coupé will also be unveiled at the New York Motor Show this week, but is due to hit showrooms a little later than the GLC 43 AMG, with planned sales beginning early 2017. Two versions of the GLC Coupé have been announced thus far, made up of the GLC300 4MATIC Coupé, along with the GLC 43 AMG itself also receiving the Coupé treatment. The base GLC300 will receive a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine and will boast 241 BHP.
