Top Gear Review The Lamborghini Aventador

Since the launch of the Aventador LP-700-4 in early March at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, the Top Gear team appear to be absolutely taken with this new car.

At the launch, they said simply ‘you want one’.  Never ones to mince their words, we agree.  You too will soon be able to get your hands on one, with our desirable hire car.

Obviously, we weren’t the only ones to listen to them after such launch news.  The very next week they reported the phenomenal news that the Lamborghini chief confirmed that the Aventador’s entire 12-month production run was sold out, just one week later.

It would seem that the guys at Top Gear really can’t get enough of the Aventador.  They continued to follow the ‘thoroughly-delectable’ Aventador as they reported some weeks later about it successfully landing the role of Batman’s new wheels in the next installment of this epic comic on the silver screen, The Dark Knight Rises.

At last, the team got their hands on the car, as James May drove three of them in June.   Recounting his experience of ‘6.5 litres of V12 pumping Italian piston power shrouded in a body built from carbon fibre and aluminium, and then artfully arranged on double-wishbone and pushrod racecar suspension’ he, quite simply, became seduced by the overall shape, and we think you will be too.

He also loved the sound, noting that ‘it’s definitely a V12 sound, but quite old-fashioned and mechanical, definitely created by things going up and down and round and round rather than by any creative tampering with the exhaust’, which is something we know you will love as well.

He felt that the ‘initial pull-away can be difficult to achieve smoothly, and sometimes, just as you lift off at a crawl, the clutch decides to engage fully, meaning the function of the accelerator seems to have been reversed’.  Maybe you can do better?

He also found it too wide for the narrow Italian roads, so we recommend you hire it with somewhere else in mind, somewhere closer to home that will allow you to truly see, hear and feel it.

Given the volume of cars that Clarkson, May and Hammond have at their disposal, (and when it comes to Top Gear we intend the pun, disposal’s the word!) you would’ve thought that they might have been a bit blasé about finally getting their hands on the Lamborghini Aventador.  We guess it’s just a case of ‘the best things come to those who wait’!

Finally, the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 was shown on the Top Gear program at the end of July.  For those of you who were able to wait the entire weekend to see the supercar revealed at 8pm on the night of Sunday 31st July, imagine the agony of the Top Gear team, waiting to see it revealed eventually on their show after so many months.  The LP700-4 Aventador was reviewed and completed the ‘Power Lap’ around the legendary Top Gear Test Track at Dunsfold.

The editor even had something to add about the day they drove the Lamborghini Aventador.  “Someone punch me in the face – life isn’t going to get better than this.”

Luckily, you won’t have to wait so long to get to drive this modern interpretation of the Lamborghini statement style, it’s been selected for the Signature Car Hire fleet.
