We’ve selected the stylish AMG Line version for our rental car fleet with comes with 250d badge and uses the 2,143cc twin turbocharged four cylinder diesel engine. Doing 0-62mph in just 6.6 seconds its quick with little turbo lag.

Maximum torque is available from 1,600rpm, and our sleek SLC 250 d hire car offers 201bhp and an impressive 0-62mph time of 6.6 seconds. Electronic power steering improves the handling compared to its predecessor, gripping well and handling a change of direction accurately to complement the diesel engine's relative capabilities.

This model is an ideal motorway cruiser. Wind, tyre and road noise reduction is decent, thanks to the folding metal roof. If you choose to drop the roof both passengers are well protected from wind bluster when the windows remain up. The folding hard top roof looks good when up and doesn’t take up too much space in the large boot when down.

The cabin’s remains quiet with the roof up and two tall adults will not be left wanting in the spacious cabin space. In our AMG Line model the driver can sink in to comfortable seats which are adjustable, as is the steering wheel. This model also includes a sports steering wheel and leather-topped dash.

This car command infotainment system is still one of the better systems on the market both aesthetically and functionally. Behind the two seats is an easily accessible, generously size 335-litre boot when the roof is up and separator lifted, making the load space large enough to house two or three large travel bags.
