A Premiere to Wait for: the Lamborghini Aventador Roadster

The European motor show circuit is always something for which you wait with baited breath. For Lamborghini fans in particular, the Geneva show is certainly the jewel in the crown of this particular circuit. It was at Geneva that both the Miura and the Countach met their public. In March of this year we were delighted to be rewarded with something really special after a long drought of a new model in the form of the thrilling Aventador LP700-4.

Now, it seems as though aficionados will be further treated to a surprise in store. At the next Geneva Motor Show in March, the 2013 roadster version of this exciting performance model is expected to be unveiled. Whilst Lamborghini made no secret of the fact that they would delight the motoring world further with an open-top cabriolet to complement the V12 road racer, followers of this iconic marque can now realistically look forward to Geneva in the New Year to see and hear this open-air iteration of the fabulous sportster.
What can be expected is the same superlative 6.5 litre V12 engine delivering 690 bhp, and with 509 lbs of torque. Equalling the performance of the coupe, the soft-top achieves 0-60 mph in only 2.9 seconds, with an overwhelming top speed of 217 mph. As with all Lamborghinis, the Aventador roadster will be all-wheel drive. The new configuration will also share the seven-speed gearbox of the Aventador, yielding an amazing amount of power and control.

Whilst the statistics that the un-identical twins will share are equally impressive, the visual image that has been prepared by Teamspeed, of what the coupe will look like in top-down format, is awe-inspiring.
Taking their cues from Lamborghini’s penchant for startling colour schemes for their beautiful bodies, the artist’s impressions portray a lime green convertible. In line with the tangerine Aventador used as the launch car at the Geneva Show this year, the new car is projected with contrasting citrus and charcoal interior. Commanding carbon alloy rims make the perfect foundation for the roadster to ride. The silhouette that emerges above the defined wheel arches is certainly striking.

Whilst official word from Lamborghini has yet to be received, it is highly conceivable that the official release will indeed reveal something magical. Initial reactions to the rendition include that their dream car has finally arrived. What can be agreed upon is that the next Geneva Motor Show will be well worth the wait.
