Cosmetic changes on the outside belie some serious enhancements under the skin for one of the most desirable supercars around.
A new series of pictures has been released to accompany more information about the attractive package which now adorns the already-desirable R8.
The facelift may appear ornamental on the exterior of the car, but some superb improvements to the engine and gearbox ensure that this progression is more than just superficial.
A new bumper, LED headlights, restyled R8 logo, redesigned rear diffuser, and rounded single exhaust all combine to augment the racy exterior of the car.
Significant developments in the car’s engineering however mean that it should provide a more exciting drive than ever. The current six-speed automated manual R-tronic gearbox has been replaced by a new seven-speed S-tronic dual-clutch box. Power units now include a 424 bhp 4.2 litre V8, a 5.2 litre V10 capable of 518 bhp, and for a new V10 Plus model there is an engine with a mighty 542 bhp.
The V10 Plus, in addition, also sports a new level of excitement in its aesthetic detail. Being offered in Coupé format only, the car features a carbon fibre front splitter, mirror housings and air vents. It has a larger rear diffuser and black-painted exhaust pipes to differentiate itself from its smaller siblings.
It is lighter as well. The car’s featherweight alloys, reduced insulation, tuned suspension, and lightweight bucket seats mean that it reaches 62 mph from a standing start in 3.5 seconds. Its top speed is 197 mph.
Across the range, Audi estimates that the new package decreases emissions to 22g/km CO2 and improves sprint times of all cars. Even the entry-level V8 reaches 62 mph in a reduced 4.3 seconds.
Yet to be available in Britain, the German pricing is the equivalent of £88,300 for the V8 Coupé, £120,300 for the V10, and £134,800 for the V10 Plus.
