Lamborghini to Close the Chapter on Manual Gearboxes?

Lamborghini certainly continues to innovate in its design capabilities. Rumour has it though that their engineering too is about to turn a corner.

In a swansong to three-pedal gear changes, the latest online review shows a British motoring journalist travel to Italy to get into the driver’s seat of the rear-wheel-drive Lamborghini Gallardo LP 550-2.

This masterful model is equipped with a manual gearbox.  If analysis and prediction are to be believed, and Lamborghini wishes to eclipse Ferrari in their speculated move away from paddle-shift, it could be one of the last.  The discontinuation of manual gear changes in favour of quick-changing dual-clutch transmission has been blanketing almost all new supercars of late.  This move is certainly prevalent amongst many other European luxury sports car manufacturers over the last few years.  With investment in this area, the move has seen benefits in performance, emissions, and even fuel economy.

The Lamborghini LP560-4 on the other hand combines the best of both worlds with its automated e-gear transmission.  A perfect sample of the Lamborghini style available on short-term hire, the car features a six-speed gearbox that was completely redesigned.  Manual gear changes are on offer to you as you self-drive this supercar, or you can put it in automatic mode for dynamic yet refined driving.  Given the choice of three drive styles, sport, corsa, and strada, you can ensure no compromise to your enjoyment of this all-wheel drive experience.  This means you can maximise the excitement you get from the V10 engine, stiffer suspension, improved Spyder body construction and handling, and optimised aerodynamics.  You will really be able to put your foot down and embrace the feeling brought on by the direct fuel injection system as the car sprints to 62 mph in just 3.6 seconds.  540 Nm of torque never felt, or looked, this good.
