Maserati is Developing a New Luxury Car to Compete Against Rivals

Italian super car manufacturer Maserati is definitely going to be on the radar for BMW and Mercedes-Benz. The company seems to all but confirm that it is building a new luxury car that is set to compete against other rivals. Reports suggest that this car is going to be in competition with a few models from known marques such as the BMW 5-Series, the Audi A6, the Jaguar XF and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

This new car is officially classed as a prototype as new spy pictures came online showing a black Maserati clearly being tested in snowy conditions. This car reportedly features a turbocharged V6 and there is an option for a potential V8 with a diesel engine. Currently code named as M157, this is Maserati’s effort to compete at the highest levels that are needed especially as the luxury car market heats up.

The Ghibli is due to come out in 2014 which seems like a while away but as we already know, Maserati’s popularity means that there is a guaranteed waiting list for this car or it could sell out quickly. Experts believe production for this car will remain in Italy at Bertone which continues Maserati’s textured history in creating stunning cars.

The pictures clearly show this prototype trying to look like a Quattroporte, however, the trained eyes of Maserati fans can see that this is the new Ghibli. Performance specifications will be available when the car is being produced in full for consumer use.
