Mercedes S Class

mercedes-new-s-class-s350-l-side-frontOne of Signature boss Dee’s favourite models, the Mercedes S Class has long been notable for its comfort and smooth ride – not to mention its powerful engine. 2014 sees not one but three new S Class models join the stable, the S350 Bluetec, with a 3 litre V6 diesel engine, the S500, with a 4.7-litre V8 petrol engine, and the S63 AMG, which carries a 5.5-litre V8. A hybrid will also become available – the S400.

All the models have enviable performance, handling and energy efficiency, but for any S Class fan it’s the interior that counts – and the 2014 models certainly don’t disappoint. Even at motorway speeds, passengers can enjoy a ride free from both wind and engine noise. Comfort is enhanced by the Mercedes Magic Body Control System (truly a name to conjure with), which scans the road in front of you and prepares the vehicle for any potholes or bumps ahead. Although it sounds like a gimmick, it’s the world’s first working pre-emptive suspension system and guarantees an exceptionally smooth ride, regardless of the terrain.

Elsewhere inside, the level of luxury is unprecedented. mercedes-new-s-class-s350-l-steering-wheelAs Chas Hallett, Editor-in-Chief of What Car? magazine, commented: “We expected the new Mercedes S-Class to be good, but even we didn’t expect it to set a totally new standard by which all other luxury cars are judged.” Both driver and passenger ride in exceptional comfort, sitting in leather seats, and enjoying all sorts of gadgets that make sure the sound, temperature and lighting are all just so.
