The Range Rover Evoque may soon learn that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. An Indian after-market stylist has created the Moon Rover in its image.
For a ‘World Car’ version of the Evoque, those of you with budget or delivery-time constraints may want to look to India for a sub-continental reproduction.
An off-the-shelf Tata Safari, similar to the model previously available in Britain, has been turned into an Evoque ‘wannabee’. Big Daddy Customs has created a car ‘inspired by the range Rover Evoque, and called the vehicle the Moon Rover.
There is no doubt that the customising house has done their homework. From the front, the vehicle certainly does evoke mental images of the latest Range Rover. The entire front end captures all the right features of the Evoque, from hexagonal ‘angel-eye’ headlights, cut-away side panels and LED running lights to large front wheel arches.
At the rear however it is more difficult to camouflage the high sides of the Safari and certainly near impossible to recreate the sloping roof of the Evoque. However, simulated rear lights and a chrome finisher bar hint at it’s hero-worship of the original car.
Whilst the Moon Rover is also powered by a 2.2 litre turbodiesel engine, further comparisons end there. The smoothness of the Evoque surely outclasses the lumbering approach of the Moon Rover. It does however enjoy four-wheel drive.
The interior of the car is also less than convincing. A very traditional approach is apparent, albeit clad in burgundy leather. There is certainly nothing space-age about this cabin, unlike the stellar appearance of the true Evoque. Despite ambient LED lighting throughout, Tata finishing, and quality, are truly evident.
There is however one difference in the Moon Rover’s favour, and that is its ability to seat up to seven people in its lofty interior.
Apart from anything else, and in spite of the Jaguar Land Rover and Tata relationship, the Evoque has absolutely nothing to fear from the Moon Rover, as it is unlikely that the car will ever be sold in Britain.
