Next Generation Ferrari California to Turn Over New Leaf

The modern yet classic take on this legendary Ferrari model may well be in for some evolutionary treatment.  If reports are to be believed, a turbocharged evolution may be forthcoming.

Ferrari may long have been the domain of heavy displacement powerhouses, but even at such an iconic marque, it appears the winds of change may be blowing through the hallowed halls of Maranello.

Test mules of the replacement for the current California have been spotted which show clear indications of the presence of a turbo.  The next generation is currently in development.  Such test models have been seen doing the miles around Fiorano with raised bonnets and added cooling vents, all features of a twin-turbocharged engine.  The new V8 may well be enhanced with the addition of a turbo.

This is certainly the direction of high-performance engines nowadays.  Whilst never necessarily looking to be a conformer, even Ferrari cannot negate the prospects of looking for ever-more power output in the face of ever-decreasing overall weight, emissions, and fuel consumption.  Whilst turbo charging does answer those calls, turbo lag can blunt the sharpness of the performance edge.  If anybody has the design credentials to overcome such a drawback however, it is Ferrari who can certainly design a solution.

No official news has emanated from Ferrari about this characteristic of its forthcoming car, even when directly questioned by motoring journalists.  They denied the inclusion of a turbo-charger, attributing the features to noise-dampening measures put in place to placate residents around the testing venue.  This should come as no surprise however as Ferrari always denied that the California was under development at all.

In such a mystical car, a self-drive hire of the present generation California can reveal the heritage of the design principles at Maranello.  A Gran Turismo encapsulating both spyder and coupé personas, thanks to its retractable hard-top turning it into a convertible, this car remains ground-breaking.  Ferrari’s first mid-front 8-cylinder direct-injection petrol engine went into the California.  Combined with the seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox, an agile and dynamic short-term hire experience awaits.  Performance granted, the aesthetics of the California are equally legendary.  The breeding shows, and can be traced back to the famous 250 California of the 50s and 60s, yet with styling cues which are ahead of the rest in today’s prestige motoring pack.  Classic curves combine with strong dynamics which highlight the California’s sportiness and innovation.  The supercar package is just what you need to spring clean your performance prowess.
