Porsche Macan

Macan1Described by reviewers as ‘the sportiest SUV money can buy’, the Porsche Macan looks set to outstrip the Audi Q5, thanks to a new set of features that set it some distance apart from the car upon which it was originally based. Available from April 2014, the Macan will come in three versions – the Macan Turbo, the Macan S and the Macan S Diesel. The Turbo is the top of this range, and boasts a 3.6 V6 bi-turbo engine that produces 394bhp, and can take it from 0-62 MPH in just 4.6 seconds.

Displaying typical Porsche style, the Macan is definitely one of the prettiest SUVs on the road, yet the menacing front end leaves no doubt that the car still means business. Its interior is comfortable and comes with the attention to detail you’d expect from the marque – as well as the luxury. The centre console is inspired by the Porsce Panamera, and the steering wheel is taken from the 918 Spyder – demonstrating that you’re not losing out on performance technology by choosing an SUV over a sports car.

Macan3Some of the technology, however, is very four-wheel-drive focused. The drive system sends 80% of the torque to the rear axle during most of your drive, but changes this as and when the conditions require. Tyres are also wider at the back than the front, and the Macan’s bigger brakes and air suspension are all leaps forward for the SUV that won’t be found elsewhere in the Porsche range. Its competent performance off-road in tests so far suggests that this stylish vehicle can cope with anything you might encounter.
