See the Porsche Boxster S family tree in glorious Technicolor

An invitation to meet the ancestors is extended in a new short film online.  Compare and contrast the first Boxster S, with the one that has inherited the crown.

Arriving in 1996, the Porsche Boxster was able to open up a whole new breed of Porsche driver.  Whilst purists may claim that the 911 remains the eponymous Porsche, the arrival of the 252 bhp 3.2 litre Boxster S in 1999 did much to elevate the profile of this car otherwise referred to as ‘entry-level’ or ‘baby brother’.  The new video and photo collection is a great way to see the evolution of this sports car in action.

Received with mixed opinions initially, the looks of this model now certainly appear dated.  Much improvement has taken place in the two generations which followed the launch and this can certainly be seen when viewed next to the 311 bhp 3.4 litre flat-six Boxter S today.

The fact that beauty can be more than just skin deep however is seen when you look under the hide of the roadster.  A drive of the Mark 1 car will show you just why.  Steering is pure, handling is balanced, and it certainly still is a leader in mid-engined sports cars.  Performance, sound, and handling are certainly nowhere near the levels of the new car, but then thirteen years allows for a lot of development to take place.

This learning effect can be seen most in the refinement of today’s Boxster S.   It still manages to retain character and emotion, staying true to the spirit of the original without any of the dilution which often accompanies further generations of cars.  Improved handling, and the introduction of the 7-speed automatic PDK gearbox not only mean an improved drive experience but also class-leading fuel economy.  Something else that the latter-day Boxster S has in its favour is its ability to fit your budget as well as your lifestyle.  Its total cost of ownership also remains true to the original intent.

This is not however a concern when you take the current model for a spin on a short-term hire basis.  Nothing will impinge on your enjoyment of this modern-day marvel.  The svelte white exterior yields to your touch as you get behind the wheel and walk into the world of supercar driving.  A rich introduction to this thrilling place awaits as you experience the sizzling performance credentials, curvaceous body and luscious interior.  Styling cues such as the LED daytime running lights outside and grey leather upholstery inside leave you in no doubt as to the pedigree of this car.
