A world of innovation inside the new Discovery Sport

range-rover-discovery-sport-newLand Rovers are made for conquering the world. They’re cars you can drive up a mountain in, wade through a river in, drive up to any VIP event in, and sit in for days on end without becoming uncomfortable. Part of their success is of course their incredible mechanical engineering, but their ever-innovative technology also plays a key role. The new Discovery Sport is a case in point, brimming as it is with a host of clever features to make the driver’s experience both easier and safer.

Safety is a big part of the Discovery Sport’s new technology. Autonomous Emergency Braking, for example, uses a forward-facing camera to detect objects and calculate the probability of a collision. If it determines a collision is imminent, it will automatically reduce the car’s speed, and send the driver a warning signal to alert them to the danger.

The Pedestrian Protection System is another clever safety feature, which is comprised of an airbag mounted within a cover at the trailing edge of the bonnet panel. This deploys on impact, protecting pedestrians from hitting the base of the windscreen.

There are also a host of handy technological developments to help you park more safely, including Perpendicular Park, which assesses if your chosen space is wide enough before you try to manoeuvre and then steers you into position while you operate the pedals.

There is also a lot of new technology designed to bring you even greater convenience. The tailgate can now be opened using a keyfob, the leather steering wheel is heated, and climate-controlled front seats, which prove heated and cooled ventilation through slits in the seats themselves, are also available.

The information and entertainment technology has also been amped up. As well as the InControl feature we’ve written about previously, the Discovery Sport features a Dual View touch-screen, which allows the driver to view important navigational information while the front seat passenger simultaneously watches a DVD. The rear-seat passengers also benefit from eight-inch screens built into the front headrests. All those in the car can enjoy high-quality sound thanks to the Meridian Audio System, which delivers superb quality from all sources, be that radio, CD, or USB-linked device. Speaking of USB, the Discovery Sport has a whopping seven USB ports through which you can charge your devices, so you’re always prepared when you reach your destination.
