Brabus have been up to their old tricks again, and put the Bentley Bentayga team to shame in the process. They have taken a Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 Coupe, Mercedes’s understated hint at an SUV, and added some extra oomph. Quite a lot of oomph, actually – the car now has 850 horsepower and can get to a top speed of 200MPH.
To do this, Brabus have bored out the cylinders on the car’s 5.5 litre twin turbocharged V8 engine, bringing it up to 6 litres. They have also added bigger pistons, and a new billet crankshaft, alongside longer piston rods within the engine. Couple this with a new exhaust system, thicker downpipes and modifications to the ECU, and you have a huge heap of power under the bonnet. The extensive horsepower, and the 1,069 lb-ft of torque power the car from 0-62MPH in just 3.8 seconds – faster than the Bentley Bentayga!
Of course, Brabus haven’t stopped there. They’ve also added a completely bonkers body kit, featuring oodles of carbon fibre. Features you can’t help but notice are a front spoiler lip, carbon fibre trim on the side air outlets and a new diffuser on the rear bumper. If you’re feeling particularly flash, you can even get 23 inch wheels to complete the look.
This car, named the Brabus GLE850, is streets away from the refined elegance that normally denotes a Mercedes. Yet there is an undoubted thrill to this bizarre vehicle, and it deserves points just for being able to outstrip the Bentayga in a drag race!
