Porsche are keeping up with current consumer and technological trends with the introduction of new functions, services and apps to their popular Cayenne model which have been designed to bring vehicle networking to a new level and are part of Porsche Connect Plus.
New Porsche Connect App
Accessed via smartphone, a selected range of vehicle and connect functions have been included in a straightforward and comprehensive way thanks to the redesigned Porsche Connect App. Users can access three mains operations; Navigation, My Vehicle and My Account for user-related services and settings.
In the ‘My Vehicle’ area, the driver can see whether the doors, tailgate and windows are closed via a representation of their vehicle shown from 3 perspectives in addition to being able to unlock or lock the car here too. Information regarding the vehicle range, maintenance history and oil level can also be accessed along with monitoring and safety functions of the car.
Cayenne fans can stay on beat for the first time with access Amazon Music, Smart Home functions provided by Nest, and Radio Plus all via the Porsche Communication Management (PCM).
The new model is also always online thanks to the integrated, LTE-compatible SIM card. Also developed by Porsche is a simple smartphone app for key Connected Car functions. Subscribers to Amazon Music can use one of the most popular streaming services in the Cayenne directly from the PCM as well as the wide range of music. Amazon Music also offers audio live coverage of German Bundesliga football, DFB Cup matches and games with participation of German teams in the two major European football competitions.
But there’s more because users of the Nest Smart Home device can also stay in contact with information from their home. The service transmits information from smoke detectors and images from cameras via the Internet. Drivers can also adjust the temperature in the house directly from the car.
The Porsche Connect App
Other innovations include Radio Plus which extends the range of the user’s favourite station via an integrated Internet radio system. Once the Cayenne leaves the range for terrestrial radio reception via FM or digital radio, the system automatically switches to online streaming with improved reception quality. Porsche also offers a seven-gigabyte data pack for the use of the Amazon Music streaming service, for online radio and for surfing the web using the Wifi Hotspot in the vehicle.
Online navigation is enhanced with real-time traffic information supplied quickly and comprehensively. Navigation search for destinations is easier thanks to the central finder simply by clicking on the magnifying glass icon in the header of the PCM. This also allows access to supplementary information including fuel prices, available car parks with pricing and opening times, along with customer reviews for restaurants and hotels.
Porsche voice control has been enhanced further thanks to the new Voice Pilot where input of voice navigation is simple. Online speech recognition allows voice commands to now be performed much more intuitively than before. For example, it is now possible to enter a navigation destination without address details. Navigation route calculation is achieved both online and internally in the PCM which independently decides which navigation system has calculated the optimum route, but always starts with fastest calculated result. In addition the Porsche Connect App can be used to control air conditioning and seat heating.
Porsche knows how important it is for people to stay connected in today’s fast paced world and so has strived to ensure the Cayenne is at the forefront of technological advancements. The navigation system processes swarm data with the new Risk Radar service so that data about road conditions and traffic are retrieved and transmitted from vehicles with the relevant equipment. This service can send warnings about fog, skidding risks and accidents for example which can help reduce risks on the road and prevents accidents. Destinations are easy to create before a journey, not only in the PCM, but also using the Porsche Connect App on a smartphone or via the “My Porsche” platform. The destinations are synchronised once the driver has been identified by entering their Porsche ID in the vehicle, the app and the My Porsche web portal.
