Phantom Lives up to its Name as New Apparition is Seen

A spectral glimpse into what the ghost of the motoring future holds for us was recently gained on the frozen continent.

We were really excited to see this slightly camouflaged Phantom Coupe prototype, captured in the winter setting as it underwent sub-zero temperature and extreme weather testing. This gives more credence to the rumours we have heard that an updated Phantom range may soon be on the roads.

This could be exciting news indeed. If true, this facelift will be the first for the Phantom Coupe since its launch five years after the sedan platform. In 2008, it was a stirring moment indeed when this flagship model was launched in two-door format. An upgrade to the model will be just what we need to raise the chilly temperatures.

It is projected that the sports model will reflect modifications similar to those of the four-door Phantom, available in both standard and extended wheelbase models currently. The winter garb of the test mule, designed to disguise the changes that will be put into production, attempted to keep under wraps what the Coupe will look like. Nevertheless, we expect that you can look forward to the cosmetic surgery including refinements in the headlight and grill areas, and quite possibly in the rear countenance as well. Revised LED daytime running lights should also be transplanted. The rear bumper and its light cluster are also strong contenders for design improvements.

Enhanced accommodation in the passenger cabin is anticipated, which at least will include new technology and features in the in-car infotainment system. This will be complemented by the advanced engineering that will upgrade the Phantom’s performance.

The new package will also probably include technological developments that will improve the Phantom’s efficiency credentials. Progress in the drivetrain can be expected in line with ambitions of decreased fuel consumption and CO2 emissions from its recently improved 6.75 litre V12 engine.

The snapshots of the undercover coupe showed a phenomenal presence against the snowy landscape.  Some impressive handling in the icy conditions was captured in this covert exhibition of Rolls-Royce supremacy.  One can only imagine that apart from behind the lens at this secret style shoot, the best place to be was inside the passenger saloon.  Isolated from the freezing elements, one thing that was confirmed was that the Phantom provided excellence in a mid-winter cocoon of comfort and luxury.
