Range Rover Sport Takes to the Ice in Spectacular Style

range-rover-iceWhat do you do if one of your brand ambassadors is a world-renowned polar explorer? Build them a race track in the ice of course!

That’s exactly what Jaguar Land Rover did for Ben Saunders, who recently took the Range Rover SVR for a spin around a very special course near the Arctic Circle. Land Rover built a full scale replica of the Silverstone track in Sweden, by carving it out of the ice covering Lake Udjaur, and asked former rally champion Minna Sillankorva to give Ben some tuition around this truly unique track.

As you can imagine, it was a pretty thrilling experience. Ben Saunders, who has led expeditions to both the North and South Poles, said: “Obviously, I had an amazing day. It was my first time driving on ice and the most fun I’ve had on four-wheels. The performance of the Range Rover Sport SVR is simply breathtaking and its poise in the corners was astounding given the slippery conditions.”

The experience was captured on film, and you can watch Ben’s amazing journey from novice to ice-driving expert on the official Land Rover YouTube video.

Ben and Minna were able to perform such fantastic moves on the ice thanks to the immense capability of the Range Rover Sport SVR, which is the fastest and most powerful Land Rover ever built. With a V8 engine under the bonnet, and plenty of special tech from the Special Vehicle Operations division, it’s no wonder that it can accelerate from 0-60MPH in just 4.5 seconds. This car is, in fact, the first model to be badged SVR and indicates what we can expect from future Land Rover and Jaguar high performance models.
