At the launch of the collection at the Pebble Beach Quail Gathering in USA with the unveiling of an Aviator Grey model, he explained the inspiration behind this soon-to-be collector’s item. “Our founding forefather Charles Stewart Rolls was a pioneer who pushed the boundaries of motoring and aviation to the limit. With our exclusive Phantom Coupe Aviator Collection we celebrate this great British hero, presenting a car which hints at experiments in early flight married to the best engineering, modern design and exquisitely crafted materials.”
Insights of early seaplanes, period travel, and epochs of motorsport in its infancy are all encapsulated in this accolade to the Schneider Trophy-winning and Rolls-Royce powered Supermarine SB6. The seaplane won the trophy in 1931 and at the time represented its developer’s, R J Mitchell, quest to ‘perfect the design of the racing seaplane’. Themes of aviation-cued exterior styling flow throughout the splendid and forceful Coupé.
The matte bonnet, window and grill form a majestic counterbalance on the exterior of the car. It is perhaps inside however where the spirit of those magnificent men in their flying machines truly shines through. Mahogany, stainless-steel veneers, custom floor mats, polished aluminium cup holders, and a Thommen aviation-grade clock with blood orange needle tips embedded in metal foil distinguish this Phantom Coupé above all others.
There will only be thirty-five created and so the car will not only start life as an exclusive model but will continue to be highly prized, and escalate in value accordingly.
Our Phantom Drophead Coupé also enjoys a resonance to vintage styling and iconic travel and whilst it maintains its exclusivity, having been built to our specification, is a lot more accessible. The teak decking on our hand-built car is reminiscent of the classic yachts of the twentieth century. Hand-made from thirty pieces of exquisitely-grained wood, it even allows plenty of boot space for that picnic basket or luggage for weekends away. The boot furthermore provides a picnic seat for two to complete the ingredients for a great outing.
Twenty-first century technology however cleverly underpins everything that the Phantom Drophead Coupé thinks and does. The six-litre V12 engine enjoys direct injection fuel management, delivers 453 bhp of power and communicates via a Power In Reserve monitor on the dashboard inside the car.
