We don’t have to wait until Frankfurt to see the Mercedes AMG C63

mercedesamgc63We’re only a few days away from the Frankfurt Motor Show, but that hasn’t stopped Mercedes from letting the C Class cat out of the bag. This 503BHP marvel is an all-new second generation version that ‘s been designed to rival the likes of the BMW M4 and Audi RS5.

More powerful than any other model in its class, the C63 has a incredibly respectable 0-62 time of just 3.9 seconds, which is 0.4 seconds faster than its predecessor. If you want the highest top speed, of 180MPH, then you’ll need to add the new Driver’s Package to your car. Otherwise, your top speed is a still viable 155MPH.

The engine used is the the same as in the C63 sedan and wagon: a 4 litre twin turbo V8, which gives the car 23HP more than the first generation model and means it produces 503BHP in total. It also allows it to send 516 ft-lb of torque to the rear wheels, which is 74 more than its predecessor. The car also comes with AMG’s automatic seven-speed Speedshift MCT gearbox, paired with an electronic differential in the C63 S.

mercedesamgc63-interior1What sets this AMG version apart from the other C63 models is its sleekness and the brooding sense of power that so often comes hand in hand with an AMG badge. Although the car has the same frameless doors as the C Class coupe, the rest is unique styling. The chassis has been heavily revised, and now features multi-link and four link rear / front suspension as well as wider tyres. The fenders are fatter and the front end is more menacing, with an aluminium hood, reworked bumper, prominent grille and integral splitter. The back has also been changed, and now carries a diffuser and quad exhaust, as well as a new spoiler.

Inside it’s a blend of Mercedes luxury and AMG power, with sports seats, AMG controls and instruments, and an eye-catching flat-bottomed steering wheel. All in all, it’s shaping up to be a pretty impressive car – so much so that we’ll even forgive them for spoiling the surprise!
