A Porsche 356 Speedster on Auction for Porsche Fans

A Porsche 356 Speedster will soon be auctioned.  For fans of Zuffenhausen’s creations, this could be just what they need to start the year off with a fizz.

Vintage cars on auction are not that rare.  Now and again however a car comes along which elevates classic car auctions into collector’s dreams.  An auction in Arizona later this month includes one such car.

The classic ‘all-black’ roadster from Porsche, the 356 Speedster will go under the hammer later this month.  It is expected to fetch over £130,000.  At more than the top of the range 911 Turbo S, this is certainly a lot of Porsche.  But then its history contains a lot of excitement.

This is the car designed by the son of Ferdinand Porsche, Ferry, in 1948.  It was at the top of its game since its launch, with a trophy cabinet full of silverware from hill-climbs, races, rallies, and even its class event at Le Mans in 1951.  The 356 is also the car made both famous and infamous by James Dean in that decade.  In both super-luxury versions, as well as racing-lean model with chopped-down windscreen, only 4,144 cars were made. One of the twelve hundred which crossed the Atlantic is now up for auction.

The beautiful package incorporates a svelte black exterior, black soft top. and black interior.  All of this is exquisitely highlighted with chrome bumpers and wheels.  This car’s engine is in original condition.
Capture the spirit with the Boxster S on short-term hire.  With all the accent of the 356, the Boxster S contrasts its twenty-first century Carrar White exterior with the glossy black of the original model.  The Black leather interior and all the other features emanate directly from the legendary 356.  Try it for yourself on self-drive hire and feel the power of the 3.4 litre engine with seven-speed automatic PDK gearbox for the ultimate rear-wheel drive thrill.
